Live life through sustainable food
Born with a passion for good food in her blood, Heather Bekar-Schulte was raised on a small beef and grain farm near North Battleford, SK and has long been an advocate for local food security. Both the family farm and massive kitchen garden taught her at an early age to have a deep respect for the origin of food and the work it takes to get it to our plates. Her late Father instilled in her his beliefs in sustainable farming, traditional animal husbandry and regenerative food cultivation methods. Over the past several years of running a private catering business and local market store, she has forged relationships with many farmers and growers in the Saskatchewan community. Chef Heather credits these industrious people with keeping her creativity alive and is committed to sharing their endeavors with her clients.
Chef Heather enjoys bringing adventure into her kitchen with her “Prairie to Plate” cooking style. She received her first gourmet cookbook at age 11 and never looked back. This set-in motion a passion for creating food. Pairing nearly 30 years culinary experience with respect for good whole foods, she applies her classical French training with a return to the land twist. She is an artist and uses food as her medium.
With FARMGIRLCHEF, Heather collaborates independently with single clients to give them individual service and the absolute best food this beautiful province has to offer. Handcrafted menus weaving together unique and elemental flavors, utilizing seasonal and local ingredients. Added to that, foraged, handmade and home grown details, these inspirations create an elevated prairie tasting experience and lasting memories.
